I’m pretty much asked on a daily basis what my Cape Town hidden gems and local suggestions are. With over 16 000 views on my blog in 2017 and over 5 million views on my Instagram account, I’ve realised people really are interested! Although I’ve shared a few lists on my blog, for 2018 I’ve decided to create a dynamic blog post, where I’ll continue to add these as they come along – roughly one per week. These will include experiences, restaurants, free activities and a few places to spend the night – hopefully something to inspire both my fellow locals and our foreign visitors alike!
I’ll feature the gems on Instagram and Twitter, and every few weeks update the list here , so be sure to check back regularly as the list expands – the newest will always be on the top. Some are experiences that I’ve included in my private tours (I’m a private tour guide, and if you’re visiting, I can put together a custom tour with some of these elements for you.) If you’re a brand or PR company and would like me to consider something to special to add to the list, drop me an email here.
Let the adventure begin…
51. The Constantia Greenbelts
| Cape Town Hidden Gem # 2| Hidden between the avenues of posh homes in Constantia, are several green belts, and they definitely earn a second place on my Hidden Gems list. These paths navigate through the forest glades and along little waterways, and are one of my favourite Cape Town free activities. Perfect for dog walking (this was us yesterday), family ambles, late afternoon jogs and there are even some demarcated bike tracks. . The most common of these green belts, and easiest place to start, is the Alphen Trail (this pic is 2km along the trail). Park at the start of Alphen Drive and explore as long as your legs will take you. End of the walk with a coffee at La Belle Bakery at the Alphen Hotel, and don’t forget the Park Runs happen on Saturday mornings, from Le Suerer Ave, 08h00. ⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀_____________________ Over 2018 I’m featuring 52 Cape Town Hidden Gems. 52. 1ON19 Dinners at the Westin
| Cape Town Hidden Gem #1 | Once a month, on the 19th story of the Westin Hotel, restaurant ON19’s Executive Chef displays the versatility of Mother Nature by presenting a 5-course meal focusing on a single theme - one ingredient & one wine cultivar - welcome to the monthly ‘1ON19' dinners! Definitely one of Cape Town’s hidden gems! When I heard the next 1ON19 would be featuring stone fruit and Chardonnay I couldn’t resist - fine dining with five Chardonnays… perfection. Plus I also landed up doing a sneak tasting of the meal and I’m hooked! More about these dinnners at on19restaurant.co.za. Tickets are R495 inclusive of meals, wine and gratuity and sell out fast. Good news is you can WIN a place at next week's dinner! . WIN I’m giving away a ticket to join me at next week’s event, on the 26th January! To enter do the following: 1. Make sure you are following both my account and the @westincpt 2. Let me know your favorite Chardonnay 🥂- or one you’d love to taste. Who knows it may be on the menu... . Winner chosen randomly, one entry per person, and potential winners must be over the age of 18, and available in Cape Town for the dinner on the 26th Jan, from 19h00. Comp closes 12h00 23rd. Good luck! ____________________________________ 👉 Over 2018 I’m featuring 52 Cape Town Hidden Gems.
