After hearing countless times how difficult it is to shop for guys, I decided to put together a list of some of my (mostly) new favourite things. Hopefully this will help you fill those Christmas stockings a little easier – or if you’ve already filled it, that next birthday gift.
- WOODFORD RESERVE’S DOUBLE OAKED
I think that most guys would appreciate a good bourbon in their collection – this year I’ve been introduced to the Woodford’s Double Oaked offering. It is matured in separate, charred oak barrels, with the second barrel deeply toasted before a light charring. This results in extra amounts of soft, sweet oak character. I’ve discovered it’s a perfect bourbon for your Old Fashioned – which I’ll happily be sipping this Christmas day. Get yours online from Makro or Yuppie Chef.
- THIS GUY SUNNIES
I’ve absolutely loved seeing Cape Town through some new lenses over the past months. When I first spotted ThisGuy Eyeware on the gram I knew I wanted a pair. Not only are they stylish and local, but they’re also environmentally minded: 10 trees are planted in Africa for every pair of sunglasses sold! ThisGuy helps you “Take home a piece of Africa and leave a forest behind.” If that isn’t good enough, there’s free delivery and 10% discount on your first order when you sign up for the newsletter.
- ROWDY BAGS
I think every gent deserves a good leather travel bag. After eying out several of the local brands for months, I finally walked home with an overnight duffel bag. The fact that in the two weeks had it I’ve been asked several times where I got it from, is a testament to both the quality and appeal of Rowdy Bags. Expect expert craftsmanship from the leather artisans – many who have come from disadvantaged backgrounds and now proudly share their skills with the Rowdy community. There’s also a lifetime guarantee on each of their products – now that’s an offer I can’t turn down.
- LOCAL ARTWORK
After moving into my new Green Point apartment, I wanted a new feature piece for my lounge wall, and browsing through an Elle Decor magazine I saw something I fell in love with. I discovered it was the work of Kurt Pio, and after a conversation with him, I had a piece commissioned. A few weeks later my new artwork was hanging proudly in my apartment. It was the first time that I’d had a piece commissioned – it’s an exciting process and great to support local artists.
- LONDON GROOMING
The right hair product is like gold! Over the past months I’ve started using London Grooming products and I’ve never looked back. Rather than me convince you with words, have a look at the video below to see how effective they are. The good news is that London Grooming are offering you a 10% discount on all their products: visit their online store and use the code ‘JAREDINCPT10’.
- Cyber Cellar #LIQUIDSOCIAL Wine Club
It’s no secret that I’m a wine lover and in 2018 I signed up for my first ever Wine Club delivery & can’t tell you how exciting it is to open up and see which 6 bottles were waiting for me! Every month Cyber Cellar’s #LIQUIDSOCIALwine club is curated by an industry legend, and there are three options starting from R650 which includes delivery to your door. You even get a little file with tasting notes for each wine! Why not gift someone with their first month’s subscription – they’ll doubtlessly be wanting to continue the monthly surprise.
- THE ENTERTAINER APP
I think this nifty little App will always appear on my Christmas wish list. Over 2950 Buy One Get One Free offers await you with your 2019 subscription to The Entertainer. My annual savings always justify the small cost of this innovative service. Simply look up a restaurant on the map, pitch up and redeem your free meal. What’s more is there are also activities, accommodation, and now drinks specials available. Grab yours and watch the savings grow!
