I’ve heard enough times, how hard it is to shop for guys, so I decided to put together a list of a couple goodies, and experiences that I’ve fallen in love with around Cape Town and beyond. Hopefully some of these may be helpful if you get stuck!
- Protection 50 sport spf50
From the masters of skin care, comes the ultimate sunscreen for the active man. This sheer solar protection treatment defends against prolonged skin damage from UV light and environmental assault, but is amazingly light, and as with most Dermologica products, only a small amount is needed so the product lasts longer than you’d think.
- Flat Top Super Glasses
I’ve never felt more confident – and to tell the truth – more stylish than I have with my new pair of Super sunnies by Retrosuperfuture. Impressively, the entire piece is lenses are by industry legends ZEISS, but the piece de resistance is the fact that they’re flexible and allow for some bending, so you won’t panic as much about them, rather sit back and wait for people to ask where you got them from. I opted for the black and silver pair – you can see here how they kept me safe and stylish on my recent trip to the Philippines. You’ll find them stock by several eyewear providers, and also in-store atstylee icon Fabiani.
- Second Hand Book Selection
If you’re shopping for someone who loves their books as much as I do, and you’re on a tighter budget, one of my favourite options is visiting a local secondhand bookstore and searching for gems. If you know the genre of preference, pick a couple and bundle them up as a gift. Any book lover will appreciate the effort!
- Beer Time
For years now the crew at The League of Beers have been ensuring you’re up-to-date with the latest beer offerings, and if the one you’re gifting for enjoys their beer, this won’t disappoint you!
- Someone Say Wine?
Because I know that I’m not alone in my enjoyment of some godo vino, #winenot surprise someone with a Wine of-the-Month Club once off subscription. The wine-mad panel will ensure that you get the best monthly wines to try – red, white or mixed cases delivered to your door. If you’re looking for something new to try, check out the Lourensford River Garden range and for festive season bubbly, my two current favourites are the Grande Provence and Klein Constantia MCCs.
- Gin It is
Gin fervor has set in – and is here to stay. Purchase online from one of the many artisanal Gin Distilleries like New Harbour, or give some thought to The Gin Box. Knowing that South Africa seems to have joined the recent gin-fad, these new kids on the block will send you a new gin, the tonics and other goodies monthly.
- The Entertainer
Now here’s a smart gift if there ever was one! Why not gift them with a subscription to The Entertainer for 2018? It’s available for Cape Town, Joburg, Pretoria & Durban, and essentially you’re giving them buy-one-get-one-free vouchers for 100s of restaurants, activities and even hotels. A month doesn’t go by when I use mine for some swanky bar or restaurant in Cape Town – all controlled through the clever Mobile App. Now that’s neat. Find it here.
8. Apple Music Subscription
For some reason, I only discovered Apple Music two months ago, and it now rocks my world. Pretty much all the music I want, downloaded to my devices! So, you could gift 2 or three months (at R60 per month its a great choice), and possibly include a list of your top 5 recommendations to get them going. Perhaps just not the panflute Christmas album. Or Kenny K does Christmas…
9. Spice Route: Winelands Taste Experience
The team at the wondrous Spice Route Destination in Paarl, have recently launched their tasting passports. R180 gets you 5 tasting vouchers, valid for a year, including Swartland Wine Journey, CBC Standard Beer Tasting, De Villiers Chocolate & Confectionery Tasting, Richard Bosman’s Charcuterie plate and Wilderer Distillery Standard Gin Tasting. It’s a great day trip from Cape Town – why not gift someone a passport, or buy two and take them for a gastronomical day out.
