How I Became A Travel Writer

by Jared

A fireman. That’s right folks. Although I have no recollection of this, according to my mother that’s what I wanted to be when I grew up. A few years later, I enjoy making a fire on a winter’s evening, but I definitely do not want a vocation in putting them out! What I do remember, however, was for the majority of my adult life, wanting to pursue travel writing/blogging. Little did I know that I’d be able to pursue that dream.

It’s been an incredible journey, but one that has taken an incredible amount of work – and as it doesn’t provide enough income to survive, requires a lot of work around it! Even though I’m still rather new to the game, I’m asked on a weekly basis how I’ve got to where I am. I’ve tried to share the journey with as many as I can, and was most delighted last week when I discovered the most comprehensive guide to travel writing/blogging that I’ve seen. I wish that I’d had this when I began. It’s a very helpful roadmap and closely matches my journey.

The team at Travelstart consulted some travel writers – friends and people I respect deeply – and as a result, have freely offered this guide. I hope it’s of some help if travel writing/blogging is something you are interested in!
